MNR successfully defended our client, the estate of Texaco heiress Lavern Gaynor, in a jury trial in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida against $21 million in penalties and interest claimed by the IRS.
The jury delivered its verdict in under an hour finding that the government failed to prove that Gaynor willfully failed to disclose interests in her Swiss bank accounts.
“We are grateful to the jury for applying common sense and rejecting the IRS position that our then 87-year-old client willfully failed to file.” Jeff Neiman told Tax Notes.
