MNR attorneys Jeff Marcus, Kathryn Meyers, and Daniel Rashbaum secured a probation-only sentence for a client in a complex, long-running federal fraud case marred by court findings of prosecutorial misconduct by the original prosecution team. After the district court vacated the conviction and 7-year prison sentence and ordered a retrial, MNR stepped in. Working with a new government team of prosecutors and case supervisors, MNR was able to obtain a plea deal with a joint recommendation to a sentence of probation. At the February 25, 2024, hearing, U.S. District Judge Darrin P. Gayles agreed with our recommendation and made a point to thank defense counsel for our “tenacity” in defending the case, calling the result a “just and fair resolution.” After nine years of litigation, our client got to go home to his family yesterday safe in the knowledge that he is free to go live his life.
